Still Against the Boundaries of Heaven

My first feature-length film currently in the early stages of pre-production.

LOGLINE: In a decaying Rust Belt town, a mother with early-onset dementia struggles as she confronts the sinister truth that her husband exploited her condition to abuse their opioid-addicted daughter. Her memories are increasingly corrupted by a white “fungus” as her mind deteriorates, and dementia becomes her deliverance.

SYNOPSIS: As early-onset dementia consumes her memory and ravages her body, Laura, a former schoolteacher, drifts between present-day consciousness and a series of fragmented, labyrinthine recollections that may or may not belong to her.

In dreamlike black-and-white sequences, a young woman named Lola lives in timid denial alongside the shadow of her mother’s bizarre addiction before attempting to build a life of her own with a mysterious drifter named Joe. But as the years pass, an uncanny white substance appears at the edges of Lola’s world, spreading quietly through buildings, fields, memories, and dreams.

Meanwhile, Laura’s estranged adult daughter Eve arrives at her bedside carrying the weight of displacement, addiction, and an adolescence neither woman has fully reckoned with. As Laura’s condition deteriorates and the boundaries between past and present start to converge, long-buried truths surface with devastating clarity.

Part psychological drama, part surreal nightmare, Still Against the Boundaries of Heaven is a fractured montage of three generations of women bound together by trauma, silence, and opioid addiction. Through disjointed identities and the slow, atmospheric metastasis of an unexplained pestilence, the film explores the ways memory protects us, betrays us, and then ultimately evaporates.
